Bull Valley DUI Attorney Wonders, Where’s the Video?
Bull Valley, Illinois is on pace to arrest a record number of drivers this year. That means that they will be on pace to collect a record amount of fines. One of the fines that Bull Valley collects is the DUI Equipment fee. For every DUI the Clerk of the Court collects $750. If there is 200 DUI arrests this year that will total $150,000.00 dollars.
Now This Bull Valley DUI Attorney does not know what kind of video equipment they would like to buy, but $150,000.00 would buy a pretty nice one.
So why doesn’t Bull Valley, Illinois buy any cameras for their cars? I don’t know but I am a pretty good guesser. A video in a DUI case can make or break a case. If you have a video that shows an obviously intoxicated motorist, an attorney can have a real challenge convincing a judge or a jury that his client is not guilty. On the other hand, if the motorist looks good on the video, the judge or jury will be likely convinced that a prosecutor did not prove his case and will find the motorist not guilty.
If I were a police officer, I would want a video to help the prosecutor show what I saw that night. Unless of course I am writing DUI tickets that don’t have a sound basis. There are many motivations (money) for an officer to write a DUI in a case where the motorist might not be intoxicated. Not only do they collect the $750 DUI Equipment fee, but on each arrest Bull Valley can collect a $500 “administrative fee.” That means the Village gets about $1,250 per DUI.
So perhaps there’s some motivation for not wanting a video on each of these arrests.
